Iceland and the Highlands: may 2024
Photographic Adventure Overview
Embark on an 8-day photographic journey through Iceland, where the rugged beauty of the South meets the untamed wilderness of the Highlands. We’ll explore the iconic landmarks of South Iceland—capturing the powerful waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the black sand beaches of Vík, and the surreal landscapes of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Every location is a testament to the raw beauty that defines this land of contrasts.
As we venture deeper into the Highlands, we’ll encounter some of Iceland’s most remote and breathtaking scenery. Towering mountains, vibrant rhyolite hills, and vast lava fields will unfold before our lenses, offering endless opportunities for unique compositions. Here, the interplay of light and shadow transforms the rugged terrain into a photographer’s dream.
This adventure promises to deepen your connection with Iceland’s wild heart, as we capture its landscapes—both iconic and hidden—from dawn to dusk, where the elements shape every moment.

The itinerary
Day 1
The adventure begins as soon as we set foot in Iceland. After collecting the 4×4 car, we venture out on Iceland’s famous F-Roads to reach one of the most incredible destinations: Kerlingarfjoll. Here, steaming mountains, geysers and colourful rivers await us – a real playground for photographers!
We take advantage of the light of the long summer days to also visit a few stops of the Golden Circle.
Day 3
The third day involves a long drive and several unmissable stops. In the morning we will photograph the Dyrholaey ridge with its rock arch and if we are lucky we will be able to watch the puffins flying down the cliffs. We will then move on to Black Beach to admire the basalt stacks and immediately afterwards to Vik, an iconic Icelandic town.
The adventure continues past the glaciers of Skaftafell and finally reaching the famous Diamond Beach and glacial lagoon.
Day 5
The day begins with a sunrise in Stokkness, where we will watch the sun colour the Vestrahorn red, and then get back into the car and drive backwards along the Ring Road until we reach the Golden Circle, where we will spend the night.
Along the way we will have the opportunity to stop and photograph the sites we have already covered in different weather conditions.
Day 6
On the sixth day, we will take the F-Roads again to reach one of the most desired and interesting destinations in the Icelandic highlands: Landmannalaugar. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to photograph extinct volcano craters, huge lakes suspended with blue waters, powerful rivers stretching as far as the eye can see between lava fields, and the famous rainbow mountains.
We will make a short trek to reach the summit of one of the mountains and after the descent we will take a dip in the warm thermal waters.
Day 7
After seeing the sunrise in the highlands and returning to our accommodation we can enjoy a well-deserved rest and a late wake-up call before heading back to the capital. We can then decide whether to opt for a relaxing break at one of the thermal spas in the area, or to visit several interesting places around the Reykjanes peninsula.
